COVID-19 Disinfectants

As we all strive to keep safe against this deadly COVID-19 pandemic, it’s good to have all the facts right at hand.

And one of the most crucial things you don’t want to assume is disinfecting your surroundings.

You know why?

According to the WHO, it is inconclusive how long the human coronavirus can remain on a surface.

Depending on the nature of the surface and ambient conditions, it can remain for a period of between 2 hours and 9 days, unless the surface is properly disinfected.

That’s why it is indeed invaluable to disinfect the surfaces as often as possible.

Now, among the many disinfectants that have come to light since the strike of the flu, Lysol and Clorox seem to be taking the lead. Perhaps because of the recent claims by the U.S. president that injections of the two disinfectants could be a remedy for COVID-19.

However, those suggestions have been cited as lethal by many health organizations like CDC and Maryland Hospitals.

So, can Lysol and Clorox really eliminate coronavirus?

A quick answer is YES, but only when used as recommended.

According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the two disinfectants can kill the virus, but the difference comes in their performance in terms of contact/wet time.

Essentially, Clorox is more effectual as compared to Lysol. It typically wets the surface with 4 minutes, while Lysol takes about 10 minutes. But generally, the two are very effective.

They eliminate 99.9% of all viruses or germs on a surface.

What are their key differences?

1. Ingredients

As you probably expected, their main distinguishing factor is the ingredients they are made from.

For Clorox, the active ingredient is Alkyl (C12-18 and C12-14) Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride, while that of Lysol is Alkyl (C14 50%, C12 40%, C16 10%) Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride.

2. The different types of wipes each of them makes

Before going for either, you need to know the kind of surface you want to disinfect.

That’s because they are made to perform differently on different surfaces.

If you want to disinfect an extremely dirty surface, Clorox should be the product to go. It contains strong fibers that will firmly grip on such surfaces.

However, if you want to disinfect a surface with a soap scum or grime, Lysol should be the way to go.

3. Cost

Like anything, their prices vary depending on where you shop from and the quantity you purchase. At Elevate Marketplace, you will get them at prices as low as $5.

So generally
Both Lysol and Clorox are very effective and will definitely be quite handy, especially during this unfortunate COVID-19 season.

Although they perform the same function, they are quite different in regard to their ingredients, the wipes they make, and of course, their prices.
